Quick ARG! Animation HelpIn 1996, the cartoon demos offered by ARG were .SEC files (Disney Animation Studio "secure" files) which could only be viewed with FLICK.EXE, a DOS animation player program. It required a 286 or better, DOS 3 or higher, minimum 640K RAM, and a DOS mouse driver. It will not run on a 64 bit machine, and this page is only here for historical reasons as of this writing. There is no reason to download the Flick player or any of the the SEC files, really. If you go ahead anyway, it's best to chose a small file (less than 20K zipped) first, before downloading larger ones. Some users with limited low memory (DOS 640K limit) may not be able to play the larger animations. When you click on the cartoon you wish to download from ARG's website, a requester appears asking you to choose between picking a helper application or saving the file. Select "Save As" and save the cartoon to a convenient place on your hard drive. If you are using Windows 95, the desktop is usually the most convenient place to save the download. After you have finished downloading the desired cartoons and FLICK player, minimize your browser or go offline. Use PKunzip or a similar utility to decompress the downloaded files*. To play an animation, double-click on its icon in Windows Explorer or on the desktop. When Windows asks you to associate it with an application, browse and choose FLICK.EXE. To stop the animation, press any key. If you are using Windows 3.11, after you have finished downloading the cartoons and FLICK player, minimize your browser or go offline. Use PKunzip or a similar utility to decompress the downloaded files*. To play an animation, open File Manager and locate and double-click on the .SEC file you wish to play. When Windows asks you to associate it with an application, browse and choose FLICK.EXE. If you have problems running FLICK.EXE in Windows 3.1, quit all applications, quit Windows, and reboot your computer. If you still have problems, quit Windows, and at the C: prompt, type memmaker [enter]. Follow the instructions to make more low memory available. If you have problems running FLICK.EXE in Windows 95, quit all applications and restart your computer. If you still have problems, click on Start, select Shut Down, and restart your computer in DOS mode. At the C: prompt, type memmaker [enter], and follow the instructions to make more low memory available. *All the ARG cartoons and the player program are delivered as .ZIP files, a compression format developed by PKWare, Inc. If you do not have PKUnzip or a comparable program, or are not sure how to use it, go to PKWare's website at http://www.pkware.com and download the necessary program or manual you need.
